Gail, I HAD to read a story with such an intriguing title! Anything to do with books interests me. I loved reading about your love affair with books because I am the same way. Old favorites will always be as much a part of my life as my family is, and just about as important, too. :) I also have practically wallpapered my walls with books galore. I feel a kindred spirit in anyone who reveres books as much as I do. Great story, thank you.

Gail, you make me sorry that I gave away six huge garbage bags filled with paperback books a few years ago. Among them was a collection of Robert Ludlum, the Angelique series, many English writers of some of the first romances put out by Harlequin, on and on. Wish I had them back. Last year we built a new house, and I already know that there are not enough book shelves. However, there are 2700 sq ft of basement, and I'm going to line a work room with as many shelves as I can smuggle into it! I enjoyed your article very much.

Hi Gail,
Your writing room sounds perfect! I am so glad you are willing to share your stories instead of keeping them all to yourself. I am retired recently and spending more time writing. I need Owen to help me!
Keep posting,

Goodmorning Gail ! You are such an inspiration to me.
I grew up in a home lined with books and bookshelves. My father had an incredible collection of books mostly priceless and out of print.
Due to some unavoidable construction work that took place and despite all my efforts at trying to preserve them, I lost a lot of them to moisture and fungus. All this, while my dear mother lay dying in hospital.
It was painful to return to the desolate, Mom-shaped absence of home and make futile attempts at saving crumbling pages of history and priceless, irreplaceable memories of an intellectually -rich and family-shaped yesterday.
However, today, I line my shelves with Today.

Your comment is inspiring and this phrase, "desolate, Mom-shaped absence of home" is the most discriptive I ever read. My worry is how to share our books with our large family when we are gone. As ever, Gail
