Diana,

I bet it felt good to get your feelings regarding rejections down in black and white. Much better than throwing things, isn't it? You said you'd learned that perseverance is important in this writing game, and I agree, but I would add another P word, and that is Patience. Any rejection hurts, but remember it's not a personal rejection, it's not YOU they are rejecting. It's only that the piece you sent the editor may not work for that publication, or that time, or that particular editor. So on to the next one. If people still embroidered samplers like in Colonial days, mine would defintely say Patience and Perseverance with maybe some pretty little flowers and leafy vines around it. :) Thanks for writing about something all writers experience--at least all writers who are brave enough to submit their work to an editor.

Thanks for the kind words, Nancy. Patience is a big part of the writing game, and of life. Diana

Oh Boy...if only I had a nickel for every piece that has been rejected by dozens of editors. I've discovered that much of what we write MUST be interesting stuff. My first 10-page piece on Alzheimer's hit the AP and then a popular woman's magazine back in the mid-eighties. I perceived myself a 90-day wonder. Wrong!! It's been an uphill battle ever since, but with perseverance and Nancy's patience, the acceptance letters will smell all that much sweeter. Work harder editing, editing, editing, and never give up..Kathe

Thanks for sharing your feelings about receiving rejection letters. When Handel's Messiah premiered in Dublin, critics said it was a flop. One of my rejections was a piece I wrote about hearing my mother had died and my reaction when I first saw her in her coffin. Too sad, the response said. Your perseverence is like the little engine that could. Great attitude. Keep on submitting. Veronica
