This is so typical of a first birthday photo! What family album doesn't include a precious photo just like this? The name and face may change but the smeared cake is the same!

Hi Fred,
You nailed this one right on target. Babies often tend to WEAR their birthday cake rather than eat it. Most of the icing on my children's first birthday cakes ended up in their hair and eyebrows, and my middle son even had some in his white high-topped SHOE. We never did figure out how it got there.
