Dear Susan,
Your May Day story is so cheerful, colorful and descriptive, and just as light as a spring breeze! The sentence about it being a "distress signal" for the boys because they had to dress up, really made me *S*M*I*L*E*
You've done a delightful writing job describing the May Day festivities at our elementary school, and looking back now from the vantage point of an adult, I, too, wonder how our teachers got us youngsters to do everything in sync and who/when they unwrapped the pretty pastel covered pole! Ah, youthful innocence!
Love you ~ Sandi.

As I recall, the older boys weren't too thrilled over Feb. 14th or May 1st. Thanx for grade school memories. But my fondest memory was watching college students show off their outfits and May Pole dance on the grassy triangle in front of the SUB every year at my Univ. What a beautiful sight, and with live music yet. Great story as usual.....Kathe

Susan,
Well written story. I too found my self Maypole dancing in 1951. As a college fraternaty pledge I was ordered to. I will never - never admit that I kind o liked it.

Susan, what a nice memory you shared! We didn't celebrate May day at our school but after reading your account, I wish we had! Love, Mattie

I really enjoyed reading about dancing around the May pole. I have seen such things in movies and on television, but it was not practiced in our school. I think I missed out on some fun. BJ

I remember well the Maypole dance at Sunset Elementary in Moultrie. Those were certainly the "good ole days."
Thanks for sharing good memories. Marlene
