I do it, too! I find I listen to myself better than anyone else...except possibly the dogs. My husband often says he worries about me. What do men know? Great, great piece!!

I have been talking to myself all my life and have found it useful. I find that if I repeat something out loud for example, I remember it better than just reading it. I often pray out loud when working outside or walking the dog. My wife looking out the window see my mouth moving and wonders about my sanity. Ever since my high school days, whenever someone comments on my talking to myself, I have told them that was the only way I could find intelligent conversation, which usually stops them cold.

I think that's the best story you have ever written. That's life. We do talk to ourselves. Most of us won't admit it, but we do. We also talk to God when we pray and even though we can't see him, we know he's there. And yes, I talk to myself all the time. It makes things clearer when I can say it out loud. Wanda

Terrific story, Kathe. I am like the others who left comments -- I also say things out loud when I want to remember something, as it seems to work when it's audible, as opposed to just thinking it. A thought flits away like a dream, but a verbal reminder sticks like "pea-but." :)

Kathe, Another goody from my favorite writer. Such a talked about subject, talking to yourself. So many others talk to themselves so it must be the thing to do. As my Grandmother told me many years ago, "It's all right to talk to yourself, just don't get caught answering yourself!"

Kathe, I just love it!! That's me from top to bottom! Thanks for puting the positive spin on it. I thought i was going over the edge!
Interesting thought, when babies begin to babble, they talk to themselves. Those little angels do it right. Perhaps as we gain wisdom, we become like the little children! We ldies and the kiddies are not so very much different!
Love ya lots, RoseMary

Kathe,
What an amusing article! I admit that I talk to myself sometimes, too. A few days ago I was walking to my car in the parking lot of a store, talking about the things I needed to do when back at home. Well, unbeknown to me until I opened my car door to get in, a woman sitting in the car to my left had her window down (It's warm here in south Florida!), apparently waiting for someone inside the store. Our eyes met briefly, and she looked at me like I was a bloomin' idiot for chatting aloud to nobody but myself! Ask me if I was embarrassed!
I thoroughly enjoyed your story, as well as two comments: one by Fred Wickert and one by Maria Harden. Both remarks made me chuckle!
Keep up the fine writing,
Sandi in FL.

I loved it! I often talk to myself and then look around to make sure no one heard. From now on, I'm going to hold my head high and keep talking. BJ
