Not being a mother, I could relate to your story kind of as an onlooker, and found it awesome, hilarious, original of course and very enjoyable. I'm still laughing! Your daughter will enjoy this immensely, I'm sure. Agnes

Wonderful story, Bonnie. I remember the shopping-for-a-prom-dress with my daughter well. It's when my hair began to turn gray! But now she has a very darling but headstrong little daughter and someday she will have to shop for a prom dress with her. You see, there IS justice in this world.

Bonnie...This is outstanding and not far fetched...I have 3 girls all with their own families now...The youngest is the only one who will know the joys from witch you speak...She has a wee 7 month old girl who is setting her own course in life....I can't wait... (-:

I laughed, I cried, and I remembered. I felt your pain. I'm anticipating a little of that payback myself. BJ

Whatever were those girls thinking when it came to the sneakers? I know it had to be quite a shock at the time, but makes for a fun story and great memories now.

Hi Kathy:
The sneaker idea had been around for a month or two by then but I had not seen Heather wear a black, and a white, together.
This was the Junior Prom and she was attending a Public school. Racism was rampant at that school, and harassment was a daily thing. So many of the students in trying to convey the message that 'We appreciate both black and white people', started to wear the different colored sneakers. They called it 'The Oreo Look'-if you can imagine.
I took Heather out of that school in Grade 10, because she was suffering from bullying in school because her Dad was a policeman.
We placed her in a Private School as we were living where one of the best Private Schools was located. It cost a fortune, all races and creeds attended, and there was no racism. She blossomed at King's Edgehill, and also did not suffer 'genderism'!
So that is the story on the sneakers.
But with a beautiful prom dress-Oh My-How did I survive it all???

Fortunately, my own two daughters did their prom thing fashionably routine without this mother's shocking sigh. It's those five granddaughters that send me into a tailspin these days, but like the good granny that I am, I say not a word.

Delightful, delightful, and I like your story's title! It is wonderful to be on the 'other side' of this 14 years old tale...you lived through it and have had lots of laughter over it. Please let me know what "flanker holes" are...you said Heather returned from her camping trip aftr the prom with flanker holes...I'm just curious.
