I've received a lot of comments on this story from the various places it has appeared.Yours was the best and you summed it up in one line. I didn't thing about it that way, but your are right. I summed up my life.

Thank you

Hi Mike,
What a delightful story, and I have read it more than once, each time relishing the reminder that a small gift such as your bookmark can be more valuable than an item costing fifty times more money. You gave the bookmark its value. Congratulations on your prize-winning story! I hope it's the first of many more here at Our Echo. You're such a good author, and I eagerly look forward to reading more, including some of your funny episodes like the one about the ladder on the roof in that rainstorm. Please post that one so we can all laugh aloud!
Your friend and fan,
Sandi in FL.

Michael, it has been many years and tears that we have shared over time. I'm so proud of you to have continued to write your stories. My dear husband Willie is watching from heaven's sky with great anticipation to what is to come next. You and Willie had a friendship that grew from great distances and many tall tales. Congrats on this story and what is to come in the future. Sandra

You've penned a beautiful story of real life, the ebb and flow of it, and the bookmark is a tangible piece of cloth that made the journey with you. God is good to have blessed you with two precious wives and children and time to enjoy them. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with us. ~ Susan

Michael, I am new to this site so just getting to read some contest winners and recent posts. I noticed when I finished your piece, and just as Nancy said above, that your essay summed up your life so beautifully. That is quite an accomplishment. My heart beat faster and with a bit of pain at the loss of your wife (I'm so sorry...she seemed like such a gift to you...loving and understanding of the many changes you had to go through) and then was eased by you finding love again. So you took me through a gamut of emotions in one small (in length only!) piece...another feat.

Congrats on winning...very well deserved.

This story was written for the many people
who mailed me about the story called "The Happiest Day of my Life." You should be able to find it on this site.
The story has been published in many places. The last time it was used, several hundred people emailed me. They wanted to know what happened to my daughter since I say I live in New Jersey with my wife and son. The Tattered Bookmark was written to tell the story. When I completed it, I knew I had a great story.
