I like this very much--isn't it amazing how quickly our pets claim us for their very own? Congratulations on ignoring the vets inclination and bringing Willie through his crisis.

A truely loving story about the love we have for animals. Thank you for sharing. K.L. Farnum

The story of Willie is greatly surprising to me. I have had a large number of dogs throughout my life and I have seen Parvo Virus and dealt with it first hand. Parvo usually claims the animals life within 48 hours of coming down with it. The cause of death is usually dehydration. It usually produces non stop dirhea, which in turn causes massive dehydration. Replacing the fluids and minerals and enzymes fast enough to replace what has been depleted is nearly impossible and is the resulting dehydration is what takes their lives. You did not mention diarhea as one of the symptoms. I'm thinking your chicken soup was the life saver. You and Willie beat the odds for sure.

Unfortunately, Willie did suffer all the classic symptoms. It wasn't pleasant for either of us. I like to believe it was the chicken soup that pulled him through, but to give the professionals their due, it was probably the IV given to him at the emergency animal hospital. Thank you for your comments.

Good for you BJ. My old ole-eyed cat got sick recently, and because of his age, I had it in mind to let him go. Dr. said...."Let me check this out and I'll call you." $560 later I still have the old cat after surgery, antis, and minus 9 teeth. I'm such a damned 'ol fool........Kathe

Willie's initial treatment totaled close to $1000.00. Fortunately, the SPCA reimbursed us. Even healthy, he has cost me a small fortune...I'm right there with you in the damned 'ol fool category! BJ

Hi B.J.,
Even though I'm a cat person more so than a dog lover, I clung to every word in your story about Willie. It made me smile with relief to know he survived. Chicken soup cures a lot of ailments, obviously!
Thanks for including the two photos of Willie. And your last sentence is a dandy way to end the story...an eighty-five pound lap dog! *LOL*
Blessings,
Sandi in FL.

Willie! What a precious big guy! Nothing makes you better than chicken soup and your mom to rock you! CJ
