You captured my attention with the first paragraph because that is exactly how my siblings and I grew up...using our imaginations and playing outside, almost always outside with whatever we found. My sister and I would fix a glass of pretend chocolate milk (dirt and water) for our much younger brother who would watch us stir it up then he'd actually taste it before spitting it out. So, I can relate to the mud pie you made for Otis. Such a delightful, descriptive telling of your story, BJ...I thoroughly enjoyed it. ~ Susan

Hi B.J.,
My sister (Susan Poole) and I not only gave that muddy "chocolate milk" concoction to our little brother more than once (several times actually), but I also remember "making snuff" out of powdered cocoa (It's bitter!) and a pinch of sugar, then telling (ordering) him to put a dip of it in the side of his mouth. He was very obedient and complied, but almost jumped in the kitchen sink as he spit it right back out! Oh, to be young again and recapture those fun days when our imaginations knew no limits!
