Suzana,

I agree about the Premarin mares being used and abused. I have a friend who is sheltering two of them here in my area. They are beautiful animals, and although still mistrustful of humans, they are happy and free in her pasture. I'm glad you're educating people about the sad state of affairs of these beautiful animals. Thank you.

By the way, although I live in the Ozarks now, I moved here from Independence, Ohio, and had family in Lakewood, so been there often.

Great article!

Thank you so much Renie for your kind remarks. I think I should say - Hi partner as you have been living as a Buckeye for who knows how long.
I am thrilled that someone in Ohio has rescued two of them. Yes, the call went out for people to adopt these poor abused mares. They are two of the lucky ones. In time I believe they will realize that they are now in horse "heaven" after the horror they have been through for God knows how long.

I jumped the gun Renie. Those two lucky horses are living in the Ozarks-
not Ohio. Well, hopefully there are some Ohioans who rallied to the cause.

Such a heartbreaking story! When will humans EVER learn not to mess with Mother Nature and her critters?

As a staunch supporter of adopting horses and donkeys, I'm ashamed to say I've never heard of the Premarin mares and what's more am ashamed of the non-actions of our former Sen. Burns. He's an old friend of our family and an old cowboy to boot, I don't understand any of it. If I was even ten years younger, I'd adopt a few horses, for I have the room, but it's out of the question for me now. I cried all through your story and do hope that you're making some headway for the protection of our wonderful equine. As you may know, Ken and I adopted eight donkeys, bred four mammoths and turned their offspring into national award winners. We're all retired comfortably now, just as the Premarins should be. God Bless you and others for taking the right steps. Kath

Kath - thanx so much for your understanding and caring. We in animal rights have known about the suffering mares for years. It is sad that the media would not or did not want to spread the horror of the Premarin mares. I think there is collusion at times between the pharmaceuticals and big business generally and the media. Proof? No, just a gut feeling.
We were so glad when alternative medical doctors like Dr. Christine Northrup spoke out against using horses' urine. Sadly, so many people either weren't listening. did not hear her, or are completely wed to whatever traditional medical doctors say.
I am so glad that I don't use drugs of any kind because so many of them were developed using animals in cruel and in our opinion unnecessary protocul.
God bless you Kath. You indeed are a friend of the animals. They are a part of God's creation and deserve our love and concern. Would that you can connect with animal right orgs like HSUS or any of the many others. We could use your compassionate and powerful voice.

Have been contributing for years and years. Also in lieu of flowers, both Ken and I have preferred Humane Society contributions. I really need to get busy and write about the dreadful semi-truck load of Collies that nearly escaped into the U.S. some years ago and how Montanans from everywhere jumped in with time and money to save them from even more horrible death in that filthy truck. One thing is for sure, nine times out of ten after hearing of animal cruelties, most folks give them their all. Thanx again for your wonderful heads up story. Kath

Your story made me very sad to realize how we treat our beautiful animals. May you continue to educate where ever you can about these abused Premarin mares and other animal issues. Thanks again for your efforts. Anna Jason

I had read an article about the Premarin Horses, and I sent it to everyone I knew. It is very sad what man does in the name of science. I pray that what goes around comes around. I wish I had a place of my own, I would gladly take them in. GOD bless those that do. K.L. Farnum

Amen to that wish K.L. Anyone who shows compassion - be it to humans or animals is special - very special. This earth is supposed to be shared and not exploited. Sadly, neither churches or government seem much interested in sending this message to all.
