Kathe--as usual you make with wonderful combinations of words a bittersweet family memory so very vivid. Halfway through the story I wanted to find that ring so badly it hurt!*lol*
Marvelous piece as always, and I am amused that you would call your parents that because our son called us
Bonnie and Joe until he went to school.
Everyone would comment 'How Odd that John calls you by your first names!'
Heck, that wasn't odd, the odd thing was that we never corrected him and when his sister was born and he was almost ready to go to school, he realized that I was using the words Mom and Dad.
So cute it all was, and so innocent!
There are times now when he will call and ask for 'Joey', and we have the greatest laugh!
Congrats on yet another wonderful recollection brought to life and shared with others. You go girl!!

As always, never a dull moment when reading a story by Kathe Campbell. I have read a number of them, and every one of them reaches out to grab you. This one is no exception.

Kathe dear, I didn't want "Maude's Stone" to end until her diamond was found! Not trying to sound funny, but oh, what a gem of a story! Only you could pen it with such flourish, vivid details, and wit. Memories are such cherished commodities; aren't they? You're one of the few people I know who lives life in full color every day. Keep hope alive. Sandi in Florida

YES, Cher has to agree with last post: KATHE is a LIVING COLOR person!
And always ENJOYABLE as all getout!
(I suppose 'all getout' is another southernism I tend to come up with).
KEEP on Keepin on Granny!
ALWAYS..CHER (gingerl) PS: I did the Poetic thing on here also.. thanks for introducing me to the site! {"WELLS" and "HOPE" are the poems under CAMPBELL also)

I just love this story, Kathe. It is so riddled with color and spark, so your special way of describing situations comes through so clearly. It is wonderful that you are putting down all these precious memories for generations ahead to enjoy. Now when the grands and great-grands think of their beloved Granny Hook, they will also get to know their relatives long passed as well. Excellent story, as usual. You win the golden ticket for this one!

Delightful story, was the bauble ever found?

No, unfortunately it never was, but I, as an only child, now wear the replacement, a gorgeous full carat blue diamond with great joy along with two others all on one finger as soldered by my jeweler for my one and only hand. They're well insured since this old Montana rancher still likes to get her hands in the muck. I have two daughters who have made their preferences clear, so my will will tell the story someday.
