Raising Rabbits

What memories your story brings to mind. The worst was the frozen water crocks. I believe the baby of the family, Shannon, just had to have a rabbit too and we found her a minature rabbit called a Dutch breed, that was small enough for her to handle.

Wow! A very interesting and informative essay. I never knew how much went into rabbit raising! Those were the years I was preoccupied in trying to learn how to be a wife, I suppose. Carol

Really, I'm not copying you. Imagine my surprise to read your excellent rabbit essay when I'm working on polishing one of my own!

Oh good, then we'll have that bit of family memories nailed down. Maybe we could get the other sisters to write their version as well.

I'm surprised at how much I DON'T remember, even though that was a huge part of our lives when I was a youngster. Bringing all the frozen water crocks up to thaw in the bathtub before school on winter mornings is still a vivid memory though. And while I don't remember the stone wall in front of the rabbitry (or helping to construct it!), I do remember the stone bench at the end of the upper level where we would get the rabbits out one at a time to work with them for shows. And I remember Uncle Glenn driving out from town in one of his fancy cars to get rabbit manure for their garden!

What a terrific story. It brought back memories for me, because I was in 4-H as a youth, and also raised rabbits.
They are wonderful pets. Thanks for the remembrance.
