What strange things our ancestors did. Well, bless her soul for adding on the Mae. Wonder how Fanny Mae would sound attached to any of our grands. Beautiful job as always.....Your big sis.

Hi Nancy:
Once again you have broadened my mind. I could never imagine that somebody would not name a baby. What a darn shame.
Great writing--as usual your words give me reason to think or rethink, and as always I love them.
Take Care-Bonnie.

This is one of those stories that will forever go down in family history. I can't imagine not naming children, but things were different in those days before births and names had to be registered. Love the story -- as they say, truth is stranger than fiction. No wonder we writers have a lot to draw upon when we write of our own experiences and lives. Maria

I love the story. I grew up in the 40's and still remember my grandfathers farm and how the children helped them. There was a lot of respect back then compared to today.

Thanks very much. I grew up in the 40's, also, and I know exactly what you mean. The little girls in this story were growing up in the in the 1915-20 era.

This is probably very close to the way it happened. I had a friend who was named after a race-horse who had won her father some money. Her name was Risa. What a unique person she was. Lovely story, well told.

This story reminds me of my great-great aunt who was born in 1910. I'd love to hear the story of how she got her name. I wonder if anyone in my family even knows. I shall have to ask. And perhaps one day I too shall honor her memory with one of the stories she's told me a million times.

Your story was beautiful. The words made me smile. My favorite part was Katies reply to mama "and a little perseverance." We all need a little of that.

Thank you for sharing the gift you have with us.

I'm glad you liked the story. It's a favorite of mine, probably because it's a part of my husband's family history. All writers appreciate comments on their work, so thanks for taking time to send yours.
