Your story brought back so many memories for me, as my family listened to the radio many hours of the day, too, and back in the 1940's. We ate Sunday supper while we listened to Jack Benny. We always had our big dinner at noon on Sundays, so it was supper with Jack Benny. I loved the kids' programs. In Chicago, they had a serial that ran every day after school during the Christmas season. It was called The Cinnamon Bear, and I knew the story by heart but listened year after year. You're right about the sounds we heard creating the pictures in our minds. Seems to be we had the advantage over the kids who park in front of the TV today.

Thanks for your note. I'm greatly pleased that I was able to trigger some of your fond memories of radio. TV, I fear, just doesn't have the same impact. Sitcoms, bah, I'll take Jack Benny any day, wouldn't you?

This is so funny. Just last week I finished a piece called "Radio Days," in which I too do a bit of childhood reminiscing. I'll wait and post it later on, but didn't want you to think I was being a smart aleck copy-cat. You did a great job. I loved every word.....Kath

Ah, what memories. What a shame that so many others have not lived enough years to have such memories.
