Loved this Bonnie. Lots of us learned Home Ec from our mothers. I use that water in the empty muffin cups, too. Because my mother taught me to do it. I treasure those recipes of my mom's and my grandma's that still bring pleasure to people today when they taste the goodies made from them. My grandmother owned a small neighborhood bakery and was known for her pies. I don't know if it's true or not, but my mother always told me that I had a way with pies like Grandma's. Must be some genetic thing. :) Thanks for sharing your Home Economics lessons.

Enjoyed your story, thanks for sharing. The pictures really added to the appeal as well.

I've spent the last two week pricing things for a friend's estate sale. Today I was sorting through her many cookbooks. It's rather sad to price them, as there are no family members to hand them down to.

Well I never took Home Economic classes either. They had them in high school in the early forties but Mother said I can teach you to cook and sew. So I took woodworking instead. Maybe I learned to cook but sewing was another story. Your story is splendid with a mother's love shining through. Thanks for sharing. Gail

Well Bonnie, another welcomed and enjoyed story of yours. What I find quite the tickle is....last night I opened a box I hadn't unpacked for a long time. Inside it was an old Fat Back and Molasses cook book and a tattered cookie recipe book of my mothers. Looking at the cookie photos in the book made me smell and remember so many Christmas cookie experiences. I have it here to call Mother shortly to say "Do you remember the Raspberry Dream Bars, etc. She will flip....it's been years. What timing to read your story!

I remember making the molasses candy...we called them Bulls Eyes...lol. We'd stretch and stretch them. Was quite the time!

Thanks for sharign your story.

Love, Nikki

I know whereof you write, Bonny dear. Unfortunately both our mom's kept pie crust and a few dozen other things in their heads, never to be a part of our own cooking skills. My mom swore by ice water for perfect flaky crust. I was good at the innerds, but my crust was good for a game of frisbe. My crust comes from the frozen food section. After losing my right arm and watching bowls of this and that catapult across the kitchen floor, I finally gave up on baking altogether. Your story is a winner......Kath

You just brought back some wonderful memories - all the women in my family getting together to bake!
